Resolution time?

Most people make resolutions concerning their health. I'm already pretty committed there - 4-5 days a week at the gym, with two a days twice a week (yeah, in the perfect week, I make it to the gym 7 times). I eat pretty healthy, although I could cut out ice cream entirely (not good for my mental health). So as far as that goes, I just need to keep going like I have. And I think Josh will help me keep up with it. My only new goal is to be able to run a 5K.

My resolution sounds awful - I resolve to be more selfish. Didn't my momma teach me better? But let me explain. Most of the time, Josh and I are doing things with other couples or friends on the weekends. We used to have date night (just us, nice night out) but it has fallen away. After a fantastic day where I had been selfish and said no one else was invited, I realized that it was important to me. So I've resolved to be say no to other people coming along more often - at least once a month.

What did you resolve to do? Did you take the opportunity that a new year presents? Did you go with a "traditional" resolution?

Goodbye 2011, Hello 2012

When 2011 started, I was still heartbroken and missing someone. April 17, 2011... that all changed. It defined the rest of the year, simply because I am happy. Extremely happy. Others are waiting for an event. I know it will happen in time, and I'm not in tooo much of a hurry for it. I'm content that I'm loved and that I can love in return.

2012 started fantastically - a kiss from the one I love, surrounded by friends, and the hope that this year will be better than the last. I was lucky enough to attend the weddings of many friends last year. Seeing others so happy and in love just makes me feel luckier to be able to love.

Hoping 2012 is a great year for everyone!

That White Stuff

Yup. It's December. I have very mixed feelings about snow this year. On the one hand, I LOVE fresh snow. On the other hand... it means I have to work at the slopes (not ready for the running around like crazy part) but I also have to drive in it. I don't mind driving in it.... except for all of the crazy drivers who see a flake and forget what they are doing!

I can't WAIT to have enough snow to go outside and play in the snow - but I don't want any snow days before Christmas break! If we miss a day between now and next Friday, we have to come back the following week... and I want a super long Christmas break!

There's some flakes falling outside as I type this.... I'm hoping it doesn't stick to the roads, as my choir is supposed to perform at a Live Nativity tonight. But fresh falling snow while we sing would look pretty sweet!

Exercise Log 9

I've decided there's no point in listing out every workout that I've done since my last exercise update. I think it's sufficient to say that most weeks I've gone at least 4 days, some I've gone 5. Lately it hasn't been AS great - Thanksgiving had an impact on that, and I'm having some back troubles. With the way my back hurts, swimming even hurts, and the elliptical is impossible. I've kept up with the weight machines, and spent the rest of my time just quick walking on the track - my pedometer picks the steps up as aerobic steps, so I figure I'm doing pretty good.

I still haven't seen any movement on the scale - it pretended to drop 2 pounds after 2 days of a liquid diet (tooth problem, not a new diet technique!), but went right back to normal when I tried to eat solid foods again. I've decided to quit stressing - I would like to see my clothes fitting differently at last, but I have had multiple people tell me I look more toned. I'm hoping after the beginning of the year (when things go back to something resembling normal) that I will start seeing some changes. I would really like to be able to RUN a 5K the beginning of April - I need to start training for it though. I'm waiting for the results of an MRI on my back, hopefully I can get some answers and get it feeling better so that the idea of running doesn't sound like torture!

Sorry if this all sounds whiny - it's all quite frustrating. I've been at this since May, I'm making the goal that by this coming May I will see the difference others are telling me they do!

Tailgating! IU vs. PU

Over Thanksgiving (which was busy!) we went to Bloomington, IN to tailgate for the Indiana University vs. Purdue University game. Being two Indiana universities, it is a big rivalry. Even though I'm not strongly partial to either team, it was so much fun! Our friend Brie insisted I needed team apparel, so I rooted for the gold and black.

The whole gang went to a local establishment to watch the game, and we had so much fun with the friendly rivalries!

That night we hit the college scene. Some of the bars in Bloomington are legendary for different reasons. I was just glad we could sit and not stand all night! This is Dan with me and Josh - his wife couldn't make it, but we sure did have fun!

It was a great break and short getaway - I can't wait for the next group outing!

Another month gone, another friend married!

This is becoming a bad habit, isn't it? For the lack of posts, I apologize. My friend Staci politely nudged me the other day, so here I am!

November was the month of Erin's wedding. It was so much fun, and what a beautiful bride! Josh and I drove up that Thursday, so we had Brad and Erin to ourselves that night. It was a great opportunity to relax with them before everything got started.

Friday Josh was kind enough to tag along with us girls. First pedicures for both of us, I could get hooked on THAT habit very quickly! We met up with Erin's parents for lunch and to drop our dresses in their hotel room. Then it was time for the rehearsal. Josh was a dear and got almost the entire reception set up while we practiced - he's amazing! Somehow, I was so focused on getting everything ready, I never took pictures of the room. Trust me when I say it looked great! Dinner was at an awesome restaurant called Flanagan's in Fort Wayne. Dinner was both relaxing and delicious, although it was impossible to finish a dish. I highly recommend it if you are in the area.

Saturday was the big day! There were little snafus all day long, but nothing tragic. Josh was again a life saver, playing chauffeur to get us where we needed to be on time. We couldn't have made everything go as smoothly without him, plus he put up with me! Maid of Honor sure is a big job, but I was glad to make sure Erin's day went perfectly. There's even some great pictures from the day!

Hi there. Yup, it's me, the missing blogger. I've been busy living life and trying to keep up with all of my "real" responsibilities. I wish I had a way to talk and compose blog entries in the car - you would probably get one every day!

So, let's sum up October. I got sick with bronchitis, but got a Rx and got better pretty quick. I saw two good friends get married in the same day. Kristina, aka Kik, from Misters and Misses was an absolutely gorgeous bride! I was lucky enough to be able to attend her ceremony with friends from work, and then meet Josh to go to Abby and Bryan's reception. No pictures from Kik's ceremony - I wasn't in a good spot to pull out my camera. Some pictures from Abby's reception though, which was held at the beautiful Chateau Pomije, where we were definitely at the best table. Great company, great wine - it was a great way to celebrate Abby and Bryan's marriage!

The day after the weddings was my birthday. I got new hubcaps for the Mustang! I have to wait for the spring to put them on because she's in storage for the winter, but they will definitely help with sprucing her up.

The following weekend was Erin's shower and bachelorette party. Everything went off without a hitch, for which I am so grateful. It is definitely more difficult to plan things from 3 hours away, especially when you don't know the area.

Her wedding is next weekend, so I am super excited! The next two weeks are incredibly busy for me - speech team competition, some work time at the Slopes, her wedding, watching some of my students perform, and my own 5th grade performance. Here's hoping it all goes smoothly!

If you're just joining in - I swim Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. When I go to the weight room, we do an ab workout (crunches, side crunches, bicycle crunches, etc). Then I spent 30 minutes on the elliptical. Machines consist of assisted chin-ups and dips, an ab machine, press machine, curl machine, and two leg machines. I usually end up walking a few laps on the track as well.

Perspective

Sometimes, God sends you perspective when you least expect it.

As a teacher who is also a coach and director, I become very close to some families in our school. One of these families was expecting baby #6, and their other children were ecstatic. The kindergartener was hoping for a girl, because they would have 3 girls AND 3 boys and it would be even again.

He got his wish - a baby girl born with an uncertain diagnosis. At first it was positive for Trisomy 18, then that was negative. This week they got a positive for Trisomy 13, but she seemed to be making progress. they had moved her out of NICU to a step down unit, and there were a lot of positives happening. The other children were so excited, even though her difficulties meant their parents were spending most of their time at the hospital. Throughout this whole ordeal, the father has found time to send email updates to a teacher who redistributed them, and then to update a "blog" provided through the hospital with daily updates and pictures.

This afternoon, I found out that this little girl was called to Heaven last night. After just 17 days here with her earthly family, she's home with the angels.

Yet her father's last post is extremely full of hope and thanksgiving. He knows his little girl is with God, and God's will had been the prayer from the beginning. It gives me such a wake up call. I take my faith for granted - I know God is there, and I know it is always HIS will that is done. Sometimes it is hard to understand why, but especially with the events of the last two years, I've accepted that we're not always supposed to know why. But do I pray continually for God to do things His way? Or do I selfishly pray for the results I want for myself and loved ones? I know it is the latter most of the time, even if that just means to wrap them in His love. The father mentioned things he is thankful - they never had to discipline or argue with their youngest daughter. Most importantly, her life was about love. Everyone who heard about her showed love - to her, her siblings, her parents, her faith community. He is thankful for all the people who have been praying for this daughter, and he is thankful for the people who were brought to prayer because of her life.

Over the past few weeks, all of this has made me stop and think.

A lot of times I will compose a blog post in my head while driving, but then I'm too busy to type it out. How can I be too busy, when he was taking time away from his daughter or other children to type an update?
Someday, I hope to be having children of my own. Could I place their lives into God's will so easily? Or would I fight to keep them with me, no matter His will?
I offer my prayers to God, but I don't think I stop and talk to him. Maybe I need more of this in my life.

This little one was with us for 17 days, but made such an impact with her short life. If all I gained was a little perspective, I can only imagine what others gained.

A wonderful, restful weekend

This weekend was absolutely wonderful... and yet I never did pull my camera out. I need to get better about that - it's one of my goals!

Friday night was spent putting things away from the week. I've almost finished a very thorough cleaning of my house, and yet the clutter catches back up with me too quickly. My kitchen table isn't used for eating - it's used for holding everything that comes through my door :/ Yet another habit I need to break!

Saturday was date day! Not very often that I get to be selfish and claim Josh as my own, but it happened. We went to the Newport Aquarium, and had a blast! I absolutely love places like that, and Newport's is very nice. There was a good crowd there, but it didn't feel too bad. The Navy Divers were in town, so we watched the dive show with them. It was pretty interesting - I never thought about the fact that have to replace 800 pound propellers in the water!
After that, we walked up to Pompilios Restaurant. If you've ever seen Rain Man, you should recognize it. So much fun to walk through Hollywood in our own town! And their food is delicious! Josh had spaghetti and meatballs and ravioli in a huge bowl - I don't know how he ate it all. I had an Italian panini which I couldn't finish - came close, but it just wasn't worth feeling bad the rest of the afternoon! We walked to the Running Spot down there - Josh needed new shoes for the Chicago Marathon. I was looking at their sports bras, but they didn't have my size. The guy recommended going to their "main" store. It was only 10 or 15 minutes out of the way, so we went. Found exactly what I was looking for, we'll see how I like it!
Then it was nap time.... I don't know how, but I was so tired! It's like the week catches up to me on the weekends and all I want to do is sleep. We had an invite to go swimming and what not, but decided a night with Indiana Jones sounded better :)

Yesterday was a packed day. Church in the morning, then getting ready for everything else! Josh's family was celebrating his grandmother's birthday at his house, so that's where we started. Then we headed to one of his co-worker's house, who is also uncle to Josh's friends. Their food was amazing. Grilled porkchops that were absolutely incredible! We headed back to Josh's house for another hour or so, then on to the next gathering at one of his friend's house. Finally got home around midnight I think, I was so tired by then!

Josh is off running 17 miles right now - Jenna and Lori are with him. Glad they have a nice cool day for it! Me, I wimped out and did Jillian. Time to (finally) cut my grass. When Josh is finished, I finally get to watch last night's "True Blood" - the wait is driving me crazy!

Exercise Log 7

Another week, another log. This one started a course of beating myself up! Josh took me to the weight room, because I'm too much of a weenie to go by myself. He helped me with an ab routine, including sides (which were SO sore the next day!). Then 30 minutes on the elliptical. That was followed by some upper body strength machines (don't ask me what, I do as I'm told and say thank you!) then cooling off by walking on the track. I was so sore on Wednesday I certainly didn't want to move, but I did! Here's the breakdown of the week:
Monday - swim 30 laps in 20 minutes. The pool was closed in the morning, so I had to go after school before our junior high open house. It really threw me off, and I was distracted by the swim lessons going on at the same time. Good to know for future reference though :)
Tuesday - weight room with Josh
Wednesday - 40 laps in 26 minutes. Not too disappointed considering how sore I was!
Thursday - weight room again. It was easier, but it HURT. I was still sore from Tuesday, and some of the reps made me want to cry.

And that's it. Slept in yesterday, and it felt wonderful! My Fitness Pal wasn't too happy with me on Thursday, because apparently I didn't eat enough calories. It's definitely making me more aware of what I put in my mouth, but I don't know if that's really helping. Instead, I feel guilty every time I grab a handful of M&Ms to get through the next class without a rumbling tummy!

The pool was closed for a week and a half the end of July - worked out well, because that's when I burnt my finger so badly. It's been a lot of work. I've had a comment or two that I look more toned, but the scale still isn't moving. I just started using My Fitness Pal this week to try to track calories and exercise. We'll see if knowing what I'm eating helps or not. Some days I don't even hit the base for what they suggest I should be eating, which could be part of the problem!

So much has happened in the past week and a half! My new air conditioner finalllllly made it in about 10 pm Thursday night. Lots of hours put in by my dad and uncles, and I am so appreciative! They saved me money by doing it with love, so I feel very lucky once again.

We went to the Journey concert last Wednesday! Their openers were Night Ranger and Foreigner. Not bad, but definitely were there to see Journey. It was so much fun, especially since I haven't been to a concert since last August!

All of my furniture is finished and put back together.... I guess I forgot to take pictures though. Whoops. It definitely looks nicer than the flowers, but now I'm considering adding some shells instead.... we'll see what I can dig up.

This weekend a dear friend is getting married. Josh is in the wedding, so that means rehearsal Friday night and craziness Saturday! Should be a good time though, I'm pretty excited about it.

School starts tomorrow... and I'm not ready. I finally got my motivation to do home stuff, but apparently it doesn't spread over to doing school stuff. It seems like summer just got started, and it's at an end already. Sadness, but at least it means I get to see people like Staci and Kristina again!

Hot, Hot, Hot... and how I found my motivation

It has been HOT here. I finally borrowed a window unit for my bedroom, and my new A/C is in my garage.... it will finally be installed Tuesday. It's made getting hot projects accomplished a little difficult. But never fear, I found my motivation!

First up, no pictures - finally finished unpacking the guest/hobby room and office. Made it through the boxes in the garage. I'm so excited to see clean spaces!

My first project - painting the back doors. Dad added a screen door with doggie door, but they have needed some paint. Waiting for the A/C to get fixed to paint the inside parts - I don't want to let buggies in the house when I take the screen off!

Ah, the project that lead to a 2nd degree burn on my index finger (seriously, like the whole fingerprint. Ask me how it is in a few weeks - right now it can't take any pressure without serious pain!). This is the mirror from my dresser. It was plain Jane white. I painted the channel to match the other two walls of my bedroom, then we added shells. I love the way it pops, and it adds to the beachy feel of my room. Worth the burn? I'll decide when school starts!

And.... a project I've wanted to do for years. I've had the same furniture for at least 20 years, probably longer. It's white, which is classic, and matches well in a blue room. But.... you see that flower decal? It's on all of the top drawers. And after so long, I don't love it anymore. So, I'm sanding all the drawers, removing the decal when necessary, and painting them light blue! You can see in the top shot the demo of what it will look like. I'm pretty excited - it's the same blue as two of the walls, but I think it will really pop against the dark blue. Mostly, I'm excited that the flowers are gone!

It took a while, but I'm motivated to get things accomplished around the house. Well, I have been.... my Kindle came in this morning! (and I got it free, even better!) I might have to set limits on how long I can play with it....

You know how sometimes, the avalanche starts and all you can do is sit and watch? That's what happened at my house this week. The air conditioner went out (and we're under heat advisories). It's dead, I'm going to have to get a whole new system. My lawnmower won't start - and it appears that it's never going to. My electric fence for the dog was all tangled up... but Dad did manage to fix that. My front outside lights won't work... tried changing the light bulbs, but apparently that's not it. Someone bashed my mailbox in... for the third time since I moved in.... it's currently being held together with duct tape. The door that keeps my garbage can hidden from the dog busted yesterday morning... so he made a huge mess while I was gone. Josh not only helped me clean it up but fixed the door for me.

After a week like this, I just want to say "I quit!" It's so frustrating that I can't fix any of it without just throwing money at it. Hopefully things will turn around soon!

I'm excited about what I did the rest of the week, so I have to share it!
Thursday: 40 laps in 25 minutes - lost an earring back, spent one lap looking for it, which is why I slowed down.
Friday: 70 laps = 1 mile, and I did it in 45 minutes! It's 3 minutes faster than my last mile, so I'm very excited!
I also did yoga again on Friday - I am NOT flexible so I definitely work hard while we are there.

Vacation week - June 30: 20 laps before the pool was too crowded. Lots of swimming in the ocean and walking during the week though.

Wed, July 6: 50 laps in 32 minutes. Made 40 laps in 24, so that compares pretty well. Also did a 30 minute yoga class with my mom.

I do pretty good the weeks I'm home. I just get up EARLY (5:10 this morning) instead of sleeping in like I want to. Sometimes the hardest part is just driving out to Batesville to get to the pool. I am not seeing a difference in numbers, but Josh says I look more toned. I'll take anyone seeing a difference!

I'm a little ashamed it's been so long. So much has happened, let's start with some quick pictures from the Cumberland trip.

Was such a great weekend. I felt like summer had started, even though I still had two more days of school. Then I went and saw Megan, attended Hilary's wedding, Josh and I attended an old friend's wedding, and I did this.

I was Miss Gloria Rasputin in "Bye Bye Birdie". What, you don't see me? I'm hidden under that huge blond wig :) I absolutely had a blast doing it.

There was Josh's cousin's wedding reception (they got married in CA, we went straight to the reception from a performance!) and my trip to FL. Panama City Beach was fabulous to me, it was nice to just do nothing for a while.

That pretty much sums up June... 4th of July weekend was of course busy too. Party at our friends' house Sunday, complete with me learning how to shoot a gun. Monday was a party at Josh's, which meant lots of time in the pool. And yesterday we did a lot of NOTHING! Watched some movies, caught up on TrueBlood, and worked on crocheting blankets. I have 2 out of 3 done, so I'm pretty excited!

Friday: ONE MILE! I'm very excited. Took me 49 minutes, which is probably a long time, but I'm so excited I did it!

Well, time to start re-numbering since I've done so horribly. So, here's to new beginnings and fresh starts. I now have a membership to the local YMCA. Yesterday was day 1 of the new me. I went and swam 30 laps before school. THIRTY! And I did the same thing today. Yesterday I felt great, today I feel it a little more. Gonna try to go again tomorrow morning, then it's a fun weekend so I'll take Friday off!

I feel slightly ashamed - I haven't forgotten about you all, but life gets in the way. This time, it's in so many good ways!

The secret I kept hinting around? Surprise 16th birthday party for my principal's daughter. It was a huge success! I acted as DJ, her dance teacher gave some ballroom-ish lessons. It was fantastic!
My junior high kids perform in 8 days. EIGHT. That requires a little bit of attention on my part :)
I have bronchitis, caused by my allergies. Which means I have next to no voice. Combine with above, and it causes some more stress.
My choir performs for First Communion on Sunday. I'm supposed to sing. Probably not happening, but at least I can still play the clarinet!
But in good news... Josh is back. Long story, not necessarily for public consumption. But I think it's safe to say that when he walks back in and his first words are "I love you" that it's ok to trust him again. Because that's not something that's just said by him. Ever. Means a lot, and made my heart sing.

Are you still stopped by that last bullet point? It's ok, I understand. I tell people that I know (you know, face to face), and their jaw drops. In a way, it's totally worth everything that happened, just to see the reactions. Not that I would ever go through it again. But obviously, that has meant some of my free time has become not so free :) Dinner last Friday night with a couple we hang out with quite often, Saturday night with his parents, and then Sunday was Easter! It's nice to have someone at my house a few nights of the night to relax with - I hadn't realized how lonely I was getting. It is always harder the closer I get to the musical.

We start rehearsals for Bye Bye Birdie Monday night.... yes, I have a one week overlap between shows! I'll run from my rehearsals to Birdie, hopefully with time to grab something to eat in between. Josh is convincing me to join the YMCA out here, so expect to see some exercise logs starting next month! I knew he was good for me :)

We've had a lot of storms lately. Jager, my dog, HATES storms. He shakes and wakes me so he's not by himself. Needless to say, I've had quite a few interrupted nights of sleep lately. Last night was the worst though - we were under a tornado warning for around half an hour. Thankfully Josh called to wake me, as I didn't hear the sirens! Me and my 65 pound dog in the bathtub.... that was an experience. I've decided my next house MUST have a basement - then I could just go back to sleep!

What do you do when you are under the threat of a tornado? Do you prepare any differently for the night if you know storms are coming?

I know it won't last, but the weather here is PERFECT today! Warm enough to feel great, cool enough that you're not sticky.... sigh. Even though they are calling for rain, it's not even very humid. It makes me wish I was at home - I would love a nap in the sun!

The Vera sale was AMAZING! Seriously, it was overwhelming, but once I got over the sheer volume of discounted product, it was amazing. I feel like I did well (not pictured are items bought for others as gifts or requested (some are delivered) as well as a laptop backpack that I had to special order).

Can't update on the secret yet - after it happens, I will. I've spent a lot of time and effort on it, so I definitely don't want to ruin it. Excited for everything this week, it definitely is ending on a higher note than it started!

Spring Break

One of my favorite weeks of the year is finally here - Spring Break! Sometimes I think I look forward to it more as a teacher than I did as a student, because it's the last long breath before the marathon to the musical, graduation, and the end of the year.

It's been busy though! There was sister time in Indy

Then a visit (and productive wedding planning with Erin) in Fort Wayne, where I got to play with these little guys

And also to see something that got me VERY excited for next month (same exit as Erin's house!)

I saw this happen to my car who isn't yet 3 years old.

And, lest you think I have completely forgotten I am an employed professional, I found these for my Mike TV (Willy Wonka is my musical)

Cleaned carpet today, which meant I also rearranged my furniture. When I had the baseboard heaters installed, I had to move my chair away from them, so I had re-done my furniture. While I liked it (it put my couch closer to the heater!) I really liked my original set up. I'm excited to have it back, even if only until next winter :)

How would you spend a week off with no planned major trip? Would you ignore work, or continue to do the things you needed to?

I am on my second kitchen table, and I've been in my house less than a year! They're both hand me downs, and I've been grateful that my parents have let me borrow them. Sadly, the chairs with the current table have seen better days. The one is only good for my schoolbag - I'm afraid that if I sit in it I will be dumped on the floor. Knowing this, I have been eagerly awaiting my tax return in order to purchase a new table.

I'm an internet shopper/browser - it keeps from making as many impulse buys. I have been drooling over this table for weeks now:

I had called Furniture Fair a few weeks back to see if this table was in any of their showrooms. I wanted to see it, touch it, sit in the chairs before I purchased it. I was told they didn't have it in any of their showrooms, and it was backordered.

We went to another store, whose name I won't mention, because they advertised the same table for just $20 more. I did not have a good feeling when we walked in the store - it felt just a little bit shady. I saw the table, and liked the design, but the color was just enough off that I wasn't a big fan. Combined with the bad feeling, I decided I wasn't interested.

Mom and I went on with our shopping, which involved driving right by Furniture Fair. Mom convinced me to stop and look - what's the worst that could happen? I told the salesman that I was looking for a kitchen table set that included a bench, and he took us back to show us what they carried. Wouldn't you know, they had THIS table in a different color!! I was so excited, and told him that he had brought us to what I had been dreaming of. He told me it came in the color above, and I told him I wanted it.

He checked, and it IS backordered. It should be in their warehouse in 4-6 weeks. No instant gratification, but I am so happy I got the table I wanted! I can't wait to put it in my kitchen - I think it will help finish that room.

Remodel Dreaming

I know, I haven't even been in my house a year. But sometimes, I sit in a particular room, and I think of the things I would do to change it.

Take my living room for example. I love my red wall and black furniture.

But. I'm really thinking about replacing the carpet. Lots of reasons, but I think a nice dark gray would really accent everything. And I would love to install some recessed lighting. It bugs me that there is no included lighting in the room. I know that's the way living rooms are designed, but I prefer to have some lighting from the ceiling. The lamp that's on the light switch just isn't enough.

How about you? How long did it take you to start remodeling your home?

I know I'm not the only one who feels the penny pinch. So I'm asking - know of any do-at-home jobs? I already use Upromise, InboxDollars, MyPoints. Those are great for saving at what you already do, but I need an honest to goodness second job.

You may have figured out, I have a winter-time second job. It is ending soon, if it hasn't already. I didn't earn quite as much as I had hoped (who knew working 25 hours a week wouldn't yield enough to pay for my siding?), and now my bank is playing with my mortgage payment.

So, what better place to ask about what will probably be an internet job than the internet community? I need something that can be done on my own schedule - I can't commit to working 4-8 every night, because I never get home at the same time. Some nights I can't do other work at all.

A close family friend is in the hospital. The outlook is not good. Another close family friend (who actually has POA) called my parents to let them know. In fact, it's so grim, she said they don't know if he will survive the move to hospice.

It's always sad when someone's life is over. He's been so independent his whole life though, it hurts to know that he is so dependent on other people now. I know that in a few days, he will be in a better place. But waiting for him to be with God is hard.

I know there are lots of times when there isn't enough time to see someone, it's too far, or there's something else going on. But sometimes, you have to remember that you won't always have everyone you love around you. Take a chance to make the trip while you still can.

Even though some people dread doing their taxes, I look forward to it. I use my return for things that are outside of my normal budget. This year, I'm looking at a kitchen table and shutters for the front of my house. The rest will probably be reserved for my trip to the Vera sale!

It's from Value City Furniture, which is also where I got my couch and living room chair. I'm excited to be looking - the table I have now is a nice second hand table, but the chairs are not very sturdy. I want to have something that I can ask guests to sit in without worrying that they might hit the floor!

Confusing, right? I can't believe that I missed Tuesday this week... I had my thoughts all in a line for my different post it notes and everything! Here we are at Thursday though, so I'll just update instead :)

Sunday was wedding shopping with my friend Erin. Not only did she ask me to be in the wedding, she asked me to be her maid of honor! I am beyond honored, not to mention thrilled and excited for her. I've been trading emails with ideas back and forth with her for a while - SOMEONE should benefit for the three years of planning I did! She found her dress on Sunday after a rocky start - David's Bridal in Indianapolis was fantastic! Our first stop wasn't so great, so it was nice to walk into a place that really bent over backwards to accommodate us.

While I was in Indianapolis, I also got to see my big sis Kira. It was nice to be able to talk to her face to face - I hadn't seen her since July. It is truly too long. I'm planning a night at her house and at least one at Erin's house over my spring break.

Monday and Tuesday after school were the musical auditions. They broke my heart this year, because we had to make cuts. This is my fourth year teaching (so also my fourth musical) and I've never had to make cuts before. It kills me to do it, because I know there are kids who are hurting now, but I HAD to. There were only 20 parts, and 40 kids tried out. We managed to keep 30, but we cut 10. *sigh* I'm dealing with the repercussions - some parents don't even understand. I keep using the sports analogy - if 20 kids show up for basketball tryouts, they HAVE to cut 8. We tried to figure out a way to do it, but it just wasn't possible. It just hurts me that these kids are hurting, and that people are upset with me. I know you can't please everyone, but this should NOT be a time when I have to deal with it!

With that said, I'm very excited about our cast. We have a lot of strong cast members with a lot of life - it should be a great show!

How do you handle the tough decisions? I have some people who are not happy with me (spreading false rumors in fact) because of the decisions that had to be made this week. How do you handle those people?

You know those things? The ones that you see, and you think to yourself "I want that." You talk yourself out of it, because you don't NEED it, and needs come before wants. But you continue to think about it, and your rationalization becomes "but I want it."

Well, I have one of those that has been bugging me for a while now. If you haven't figured it out, I'm a diehard Vera fan. But I'm also a Disney princess. And so I have been wanting this for some time now:

I definitely know this is a WANT and not a NEED. Especially since the pricetag is a little steep, even on sale. But. There's always a but, right? My credit card rewards me in Disney Dollars. You know, the kind that can be used at the Disney store? And I am thisclose to having enough to pay for it. So close, that I wanted to transfer the balance to my rewards card to be able to buy it today. The difference would have cost me around $10 - very reasonable to me. But because I don't have the minimum number to transfer, it won't let me. I'm more than a little disappointed - this wristlet is on sale, and I don't know how long it will stay that way. It might take me a couple more months, but I think I'll fulfill this WANT without taking away from any NEEDS. Because really - is anything I would buy at the Disney store a NEED? :)

This isn't around my house, but it might as well be. We had a TON of ice on Tuesday, and haven't been to school since Monday. They've called a delay for tomorrow morning, we'll see if we actually get to go or not!

During all this, I've been thankful to keep my electric. My furnace is electric, as are my baseboard heaters. If the power goes out, I'm going to be very cold! I've already made plans that if that is the case, I will drive to my parents' house. Even if they don't have power, they do have a fireplace. Yet another reason it's on my list of necessities for my next house!

With all this time... I've done nothing productive. It's been great! I've sat around, played with Jager, worked on my taxes a little... and relaxed. I could truly get used to having this much time in my house. I know better though - although the forecast is for more snow!

Snow Sports - work and play!

I work at the Slopes. About once a year, I get to enjoy it too! Last night was my big ski trip for the year. Ben and Staci went, along with Ben's sister and BIL, another couple they know, and Kevin. For the first time in YEARS, I did not have to babysit beginners - I could just ski and enjoy it. What a rush! I forgot how freeing it was to fly down the hill - and the speed! Not following beginners sure does make a difference. I always wear a knee brace when I go - an injury in high school makes me require the extra support. Today, I feel less sore after a full night of skiing than I have in ages. It was so fantastic - I wish I could go more often. I definitely don't ski by myself - I have an irrational fear of falling and no one finding me. It was so nice to be with a group that was having as much fun as I was.

Here I am. 365 days after my life took a detour... that turned out to be the road I needed to go down.

I am so grateful for the past year. I have grown as an individual, as an adult, as a teacher. I've bought my own house and done some major (for me) renovations. I've reconnected with old friends.... that a year ago, I didn't know I had lost. I tried for a second chance... and it didn't work out. That one still stings a bit, but I'm glad I tried it. Better to know than always wonder.

I have come to know how lucky I am. I work with an amazing staff, who supports me and cares about ME, not just the music teacher. I have an amazing support system in my family and friends. While I may be considered a work-a-holic right now (full time teaching job, plus 25+ hours a week at the Slopes), I'm lucky enough to get friend time in too. Staci and Ben are the best for letting me crash every time they work. I get to meet new people and hang with them, and I don't have to drive the hour home after (thanks to my parents for dog-sitting so it's possible!).

Today was an example of my new-found perfect day. I woke at Ben and Staci's after a relaxing evening. Went to church with them this morning, saw their boys. Drove to Mom and Dad's, talked with them for a bit before bringing Jager home. And then.... we chilled. Laundry, making dinner, catching up on some shows.... it's just relaxing. I wish it happened more often - but then it would be someone else's life, not mine. I am glad that I can luxuriate in the simple things and enjoy where I am in life, even if I did feel a pang of envy this morning. Watching all of the happy families in church this morning... I know someday I'll be a mother. But for now, I'm happy to be a doggy momma and be able to be a little selfish :)

4 Day Weekend!

Unexpectedly, I have a 4 day weekend on my hands! I guess it's not entirely unexpected - they have been calling for this snow since last week. However, I didn't think I would truly get lucky enough to have two days in a row! Today was my favorite - I didn't have to work at the slopes tonight either, so I got to stay home. ALL DAY LONG. I got wintered up and walked with Jager to the mailbox.... over my PJs. I caught up on the shows on my DVR... from my couch. Not doing a SINGLE productive thing! Plans are forming in my mind for tomorrow - need to shovel the front walk before my dad or brother comes to plow me out. Want to run. Probably should think about doing some things for school - although, really, I still have some time. I do have to work tomorrow night and Saturday at the slopes, so it's not a TOTAL weekend of freedom.... but still. TWO days in a row of sleeping in - unheard of during the winter! AND I get to go hang with Ben and Staci Saturday night.... it's shaping up to be a GREAT weekend!

Broken - or better?

It has been 361 days since my engagement ended (I had to look at a calendar to figure that out!). So much has changed, I feel like a totally different person since then. However, there have been some moments in the past few weeks that have made me stop and think.

A co-worker at the slopes turned to me and asked "So, how's married life?" The two people in between us had a look of horror and shock on their face - I kind of wish I had a camera to capture it. I simply responded "I didn't get married." That's all I needed to say, right??!? SHE DIDN'T BELIEVE ME! She thought I was kidding when I said that! It took one of the other ladies saying "X, she REALLY didn't get married" for her to believe me. It struck me, not because of the question, but because of the disbelief. With the tone I had used, I really don't know how she thought I was kidding!
Today, a friend sent me a text. She started it by saying that if it drug up bad memories or I didn't want to talk about it, she understood and I could ignore her. I was a little worried, until I read the rest. She's worried about how to keep her wedding budget down. I guess I can understand why she would think it would bother me.... except I've already offered her help. It's been 361 days - and I'm EXTREMELY happy that it ended. I told her she might as well use the knowledge, I wasted enough time accumulating it!

There are things that have happened in the past year that were extremely negative that dealt with this topic. As a whole though, I look back... and all I am is thankful. Thankful I am not looking at an impending divorce. Thankful that I've been able to reconnect with some people. Thankful that I could buy a house and decorated it how I ~~wanted~~ needed it. I might have had some hard times, and I might not agree with all decisions, but I am so so SO thankful that I am not a Mrs. yet. It will happen, and when it does, I will know. And as my friend said, I can put all my researching to good use (or just have someone else plan it all for me!).

Frustration Abounds

If I had to describe my mood and feelings for the past 15 days, the word would be FRUSTRATED! It seems that everywhere I turn, I simply become more frustrated at my lack of control.

Even with the preventative meds, I am dealing with long lasting migraines. This makes it frustrating to get out of bed - it's the only place I really want to be when my head hurts. I try to exercise - it makes my head hurt more. I do my job - it makes my head hurt. Frustrating!

A lack of communication = frustrating. Being put in the middle means more frustration. I keep trying to find ways to make it better. It seems a solution may have been found, but we'll see how this week goes.

Men = really frustrating! Not that I think I've found "the one" yet, but I don't like wasting my time.

Sometimes, all I want to do is sit on my couch and enjoy my house. More often than not, I can't. Work, school, other people's needs, keeping up with the chores.... frustrating. I did last night, but only because I hurt myself at the slopes and it was all I could do.

I felt like I needed to explain my lack of blogging. I hate being negative all the time. Hopefully things will get easier in the next week or so, and I'll be back around more.

I forgot to update here after I got the call on Thursday - the MRI was clear. It truly is just migraines that are haunting me yet again. Major one on Wednesday, a hint of one today (which is extremely frustrating, since I slept 12 hours last night!).

Plans to go skiing tomorrow with two of my favorite girls - my principal's daughters! I'm very excited, but sad that we go back to school on Tuesday. I am NOT ready!

Looking back on 2010

It's amazing how different I feel this year than I did at the same time last year.

NYDay last year I was excited to be getting married and worried about how to reserve parent tables. Less than a month later, I was dealing with calling off a wedding.

With changing my relationship status, I also dealt with buying a house. It's had it's ups and downs, just like any new home does, but I am thrilled to be a homeowner. Although I sometimes get lonely, I love having my own space. I've enjoyed decorating a lot more than I expected!

I also had some heartbreak that I didn't expect though. I got my second chance, but things ended. Not my choice, and I'm still dealing with it. It's funny - after just a few months, my heart broke more and harder than after years. Maybe because I had spent years thinking about it.

I've started and dropped exercise routines. I need to get going again - my big sis wants me to run a mini-marathon with her in 2012. I need to start training, because with my history, it will take me this long to get ready for it! One of my goals for the year is to run a 5K in April - it's sponsored by my school, so I need to make sure I don't embarrass myself!

I saw my best friend in the world marry her love. I was Josh's date when his best friend married HIS love. Both weekends were so much fun, it's hard to look back and feel sad. I'm glad he was by my side, and I by his, as I so enjoyed myself.

It seems like there has been a lot of change in the past year. Some good, some bad. All in all, I think when I look back in 20 or 30 years, I will see it as a defining year. When I started growing up as myself, and not as "Christy and".

Here's hoping 2011 is a better year all around!

as was my family! Instead of a boring list, I have pictures (and I'll explain them as I go).

Lots and lots of books. The first 6 Harry Potter books - I already own the 7th. The first 8 Sookie Stackhouse books (if you only count 7, that's because my mom is borrowing the first). And the Hunger Games trilogy. So excited - my dad doesn't understand that they are all books that I'll read multiple times. I think he was a little bummed out that I had already read them all.

The movie collection. Both Transformers movies and Eclipse. Santa Christy also bought True Blood Season 2 today!

The Wii collection. Tetris Party Deluxe is great - I was playing it while at Mom's yesterday. Lego Star Wars. And another controller and nunchuck (thanks again Joey, my best (and only) little brother).

The kitchen collection. Betty Crocker's Cookbook, only a few years later than my mom's version. An electric skillet (both from my grandparents). And a cheese slicer!

The hodge podge. Ornaments - one Celtic cross and two new home. "Life is all about" calendar. Cozy Old NAvy socks. And the polka dots are an "About Town Blanket" from Thirty-One. I am ten kinds of excited about it! She ordered it during Staci's party back in October. Not in the picture because it was already in my garage is a stocked toolbox. Also not pictured is my other gift from Aunt Lana - a heated mattress pad. One of my biggest complaints since giving up my water bed has been climbing into a cold bed. I came home last night and put this on - it is incredible! The 5 year old in me got very excited about a stuffed elephant from FAO Schwarz (which can be found at Toys R Us). My mom thought I was crazy, but he's not pictured because he's waiting for me on my bed. I'm a cuddler at heart, and he's so soft he's perfect!

A quick note while it's on my mind. I was driving home from my parents' house tonight and I started thinking about all of the things that have changed since last Christmas. I am so thankful for some, and still heartbroken over others. But, no matter my reaction, I am thankful that my friends and family have been there to see me through. That gift is better than anything I unwrapped today (even though I AM extremely excited about the heated mattress pad.... that is currently warming up the bed!). Knowing that they are there for me through good and bad makes it that much easier to keep moving through each day.

Wishing you and yours a very merry Christmas. Give them all an extra hug, kiss or handshake, because the luxury of being with the people you love is the best gift of all.

Missed Post It Note Tuesday yesterday, the day just got away from me.

I got my day off Monday to recover... but it did require shoveling of the driveway to get to work at the Slopes. That turns out to be more work than I expected - not only is my driveway longer than I realized (means my front yard is bigger too!) but shoveling gravel is hard work! I did make sure to shovel out a turnaround too, I back into my garage so I can pull straight out in the mornings when I'm not thinking!

Yesterday was..... crazy. 90 minute delay in the morning (which I LOVE) but I left my school computer at home. Means I was borrowing ALL day, as I also didn't have the programs for my band and choir concert! Everything turned out fine in the end, but after moving a piano (twice!) I was pretty pooped. Had community band rehearsal last night still, so I just turned my brain off for a while when school got out.

Dad got my dishwasher installed Monday night while I was at work! Now I just need to dirty up enough dishes to try it. Hard to do when I'm never home!

the lack of a fire is not delightful! My next house definitely needs a fireplace, I miss starting a fire when it's cold outside!

I am VERY excited about this giant box in the middle of my kitchen! I ordered a dishwasher the day after Thanksgiving, and have been waiting ever since. I called Lowe's one night this week, and scheduled delivery for yesterday. They called - they couldn't find it! Instead, I got an upgraded model and ended up with some extra money back, because it was on sale. It was delivered early this morning, now I'm waiting for my dad to install. Waiting patiently, happy to see it in my kitchen though!

I wanted to go out and take pictures of what my house looks like right now, but I don't want to get cold. There are inches of snow out there! I'm hoping for a snow day tomorrow, since I'm going to have to shovel my driveway to get out/in. I'm still praying that someone will come plow me out :)

It was a busy weekend - my choir performed at a live nativity on Friday night, I worked at the slopes yesterday and went to my aunt's Christmas party, and we shopped for Warm the Children today. Whew! Need a day off just to recover! Hope you all are staying warm.

Amazing Weekend

Christmas time is here, which means my life gets incredibly busy. However, it was an awesome weekend. I took Friday off to recover before the insanity of the month engulfed me - it was the only sick day option for me. Just being able to sleep made a huge difference.
I also had a date Friday night - I knew that sleeping was the only way I would get to go. Had a good dinner and a nice time. It wasn't a totally blind date, but the closest thing to one that I've ever been on. It was very comfortable, which I am thankful for.

Saturday saw me trying to do a craft show. I didn't even sell enough to cover the cost of my table, but it also was snowing. I'm disappointed, but over it. I also played a community band performance that I hadn't been sure I would be able to..... with an impromptu solo when the rest of the band just dropped out. Was really glad I had showed up then.

Spent last night with Ben and Staci - it was FANTASTIC! I had the best time. It was exactly what I needed before December keeps going. It was like an adult slumber party - Staci was spiral curling my hair at 2 AM, lol. Now I'm tired, but at least I know I'm going to sleep well. Even more important when my little people program is tomorrow.

I'm including Christmas pictures as I go - I was going to do a whole post about it, but I haven't made it to it yet, so I might not!

Now that I'm on my own, it's time to "grow up" and start sending out my own Christmas cards. Especially since it's my first year in my new house, I want to send a picture card. I don't have the perfect picture yet - I'm hoping for one with me and Jager. I can't decide if it should be in front of the house or in front of the Christmas tree - thoughts? Both have value, but I'm not sure which is what I really want. I just need a photographer (probably Mom) to take some pictures in both places. AND I need Jager to cooperate!

Shutterfly has some really awesome photo card options. While there are a lot with multiple picture slots, I'm looking for a single photo hole. I just don't have enough pictures from this past year that I want to share with my card list!

Another Tuesday, another round of thanks!

Today seems like a jumbled mess of thanks, but that's how my brain is working right now. On the edge of another migraine, doing everything I can to keep it at bay. Thanks for all the kind thoughts, any prayers would also be welcome! It is so hard to be a teacher when you're trying not to be in pain!

If you didn't figure it out from my Post Its on Tuesday, I've been battling a major migraine. Never before have I had one that messed with my vision - this one did. On Thursday, Sunday, and Tuesday, I had weird things happening with my vision. I went in to see my doctor on Tuesday. Well, a substitute doctor - mine is out of town until next week. She gave me one prescription - I went to get it filled, checking the price first because she didn't want me to spend a fortune when there are other meds that will do just as well. Good thing I checked, because it was $300 for six pills. If I hadn't had a migraine before, I definitely would've had a headache after hearing that! As it was, I felt very lightheaded, and thankful we had checked before filling. The pharmacy called the doc and got me a Rx for Imitrex, which turned out to cost me nothing. Huge difference!

The Imitrex seemed like it was working - I went to bed Tuesday without a migraine. But when I got up Wednesday morning, it was back, and it was MEAN. I called my doctor on my way to mass, leaving a message for a callback. About midway through mass, my phone started ringing (good thing it was on vibrate!). I ran out the back door, knowing I needed to answer (and it was at such a spot where I could without it being obvious). The doctor was skipping the step of MRI and neurologist as she had suggested on Tuesday - instead, she wanted me to go to the ER for an IV of medicine.

It seems like it would be easy to leave a school, right? Not when none of the substitute teachers will answer their phones! The secretary finally found someone who could come in for the afternoon. I called my mom, who was also going to leave school, so she knew that I couldn't leave right away. When I did, I drove home and my mom met me there to take me to the hospital.

The people we met in the ER were fantastic. They re-checked the things my doctor had on Tuesday, but got me an IV very quickly. I don't know what it was, but it had Benedryl with it because they know it has side effects. It worked - my head quit hurting. I also ended up sleeping for close to 22 hours!! I woke up to let the dog out and feed him, let him out around 3 AM, and for breakfast (and to let the dog out again).

I'm still tired (hard to believe, right?) but at least my head doesn't hurt. I still feel a little "off" - it's almost like a hangover, except no headache and I don't feel sick. I just don't feel quite like myself. It makes for an easy day at school - I'm following my sub plans from yesterday - but it still feels like time is moving really slow.

I don't know yet how much the ER visit is going to cost me, but it doesn't matter. I would do it again in a heartbeat just to be rid of the pain. Anyone who has experienced multiple days of a migraine - a major migraine - in a row would agree. You get to a point where you don't care what it takes and what the side effects or cost might be, you just want it to STOP. I am thankful for all of the things and people that make it possible for me to get the relief that I so badly wanted.

Siding is Finished!

I have a resemblance of my voice back - I can talk, I can sing, but it gets worn out quickly.

Over the weekend, we got my siding finished! Two of the ends have painted trim as well - Dad is planning to work on the front and back tonight. I'm so excited - it looks like a brand new house!

Jager has been OH so helpful during this process, as you can imagine. While on fall break last week, I also worked on a project for the kitchen. I don't have finished pictures, but here it is halfway!

I'm hoping this becomes my "dropping" spot so that my kitchen table will stay clear. I'm terrible about dropping mail and whatever else is in my hands on the table. Hopefully once this is finished, it will work out better! It also has some extra storage - I'm planning on putting my small appliances that I use all the time (toaster, quesadilla maker) in the bottom so they are easier to get to.

Fall Habits

It seems that every fall, the same series of events happens. I get sick, I lose my voice. I try to suffer through teaching and singing, which accidentally makes it worse. I end up with bronchitis and go to sleep for a few days. I eat like crazy, and then I get meds and stop eating. A vicious cycle, but it's the way things go.

Sadly, the lack of voice has arrived. When I got up Friday, there was nothing there. I haven't sang at all since at least Thursday. It makes it really hard to be a music teacher. I've got a doctor's appointment tomorrow, I'm hoping that they have an answer for me. There's nothing worse than going and getting nothing.

Other fall habits: my brother's fall break. He's home from Purdue, so I actually got to see him yesterday. We went to Dave and Buster's with mom. i came home with an ice cream maker.
I'm super excited. I had tickets left over from last time, but I'm very excited! I need to wash and freeze the bowls so I can try it out soon!

Another fall habit: my birthday! October 16 is always one of my favorite days of the year. Joey gave me my present early since he won't be here - all 6 Harry Potter movies on DVD! I'm very excited, as I really enjoy these movies but didn't have them. I'll be spending Saturday at Josh's sister's wedding. It is a popular day to get married - his aunt and uncle did it 6 years ago, and his cousin Peg was married 5 years ago on Oct 15! It's a great anniversary weekend, both of marriages and births!

The West Wing: The Complete Series Collection
I know that I mentioned that I started watching West Wing again. It hits me pretty hard every time when Mrs. Landingham has her accident. Even though I know it's a fictional story, it sums up our lives so well - the president is getting ready to make the biggest announcement in his political career, and has to deal with the loss of his long time friend and colleague. It seems that we are always dealing with too much, and when we think we can't take anything more, more gets dumped on us.

The season finale of the second season is incredible. President Bartlett's final conversation with Mrs. Landingham - wow. And the rain scenes... I wish we had a president that strong. I'm not political and I'm not asking for a political debate, but if someone like Jed Bartlett ever ran, I hope I would see it, becase I would want to work on the campaign.

I really enjoy this series. Having the time to sit on the couch and watch it is even better. Every now and again it happens that I can swing this - I took the day off tomorrow so I can have my furnace inspected. It's nice and relaxing to know I can sleep late and laze around tomorrow.

Tomorrow will be the 4th Thursday of a headache/migraine if this continues. I'm pretty tired of it - none of the usual tricks have worked. I'm hoping a day off and extra sleep will help! If not, I have an appointment for my annual physical in a few weeks and I'll talk to her to see if there's something we can do. I'm still praying it will break soon and quick!

I had a play date at the park today with Josh's sister-in-law and his nephew. It's amazing the changes you see in a month in an almost two year old! He is adorable and so much fun to be around. Jane is awesome too - it's nice to have an adult conversation at the end of the day.

Siding!

That's right, the new siding has arrived. Some of it has been put up, and I am beyond excited. It makes such a huge difference in the look of my house! The color is better, the texture is better, and I am just thrilled at the results starting to come about. I have to wait for a while - my dad has training for work and is out of town, but when he comes back, he is planning to be back at work. I'm so excited for it!

Memories and Broken Promises

It is amazing how quickly you realize all the promises that were broken when a relationship ends. How, without warning, you get hit by another wave.

For instance, I had been promised to be taught how to shoot a handgun. It was thought that I needed to learn how to protect myself. Why did I remember this? Because my brother suggested that I shoot the stray cat that keeps going into my shed.

Or the fact that I've lost my motivation for exercising. I had an offer made to me (which I don't feel right sharing, especially now that it won't happen) that was made in the interest of helping to keep me motivated at a time when I was struggling. All motivators that I had are now gone. What reminded me of that? The soreness I felt this morning from sealing my deck - it was exactly like the day after the first time I did the Jillian Michael's 30 Day Shred.

Offers to help pay for things that were/are slightly beyond my reach, but necessary. You know, those little evils that pop up. Again... the offer was made, but the promise is gone. The reminder came when I had to buy some of those evils today.

Every time I drive by his house, I feel my heart clench. I drove by him on Friday on my way home - we waved at each other, and I managed not to cry. But it hurt that the only exchange, only communication in weeks, was a wave.

I had a dream last night. Dreams sometimes hurt more than reality. To dream that a ring had been bought.... I don't even know what to think anymore. It kept me awake most of the night, because I was afraid it would play again - and yet part of me was wishing it was true. Why is it that our dreams reflect the things we want most which are sometimes the things that we fear most?

Busy Bee

It's been a busy week with lots of changes. Originally, I was supposed to be at a workshop today, but they couldn't get enough subs for the day, so I'm at school. I found this out after I had arranged for a sub for Mass, so I had to let her know that I didn't need her.
Tuesday night was grocery shopping, home for less than an hour, followed by community band rehearsal. I'm really enjoying getting to play my clarinet on a regular basis again, even if my hands and mouth are worn out by the end of the rehearsals. It's nice to be doing something with the instrument that I spent so long learning!
Wednesday saw me and my mom attending a visitation. The grandfather of a huge family from the church I attended through high school passed away. Knowing so many of the family members, and my mom working with one, we knew we had to attend. After, we measured doors and windows at my house, and did all the figuring to order siding.
Last night mom and I went to Home Depot and ordered the siding for my house! It's a color called granite - it's the darkest gray I could find, although it's still only about a medium gray. Fastest way to spend a large chunk of change, that's for sure! Then we went to O'Charlie's, Dad's treat from Tuscon, lol (he's out there for business training).
After school today, I'm supposed to visit a friend and her new baby. Two church festivals and hoping to seal my deck means another busy weekend!

By trying not to cry, I make myself sick

I don't know about you, but crying during my workday just doesn't work for me. Part of that is that regaining my state of mind to teach young children takes a lot of effort - part of it is that I'm usually about finished at that point. Needless to say, with being unhappy about the current situation, I want to cry at least a few times a day. Something hits me, I have a thought of something we did, I see a picture, and I fight tears.

In the process of not crying, I've ended up with an upset tummy. It's in knots most of the day, and I'm not hungry. I still eat 3 meals a day because I'm supposed to, and if I get hungry I make sure to take advantage of it. Most of the time, my tummy is so upset that I feel like I should be afraid to eat. I try to drink a lot of coke (it was what my mom used to give me when I was sick) and eat tums when that's no possible.

I keep thinking things will get easier. I keep thinking that today will be the day I don't cry. Then I fall into a trap somewhere, or someone mentions something, and I feel myself choking up. Repressing it is driving me crazy, but it's what I have to do to get through the day. I know it WILL get easier - I just hope that it happens sooner rather than later!

Dear Motivation, Please Return

No matter how hard I try, I can't stay motivated to complete anything. I know WHY, but it is still frustrating. My friend Mandy came to see my house Friday night. Was trying to be motivated yesterday... but my friend Wayne came to see the house (and it was raining, so there was only so much I could do anyway). Went to a wine festival with my parents, aunt and her husband after, my aunt got a little picture happy! Here's one of me and my mom.

Today, mom and I went to a local craft show. Neither one of us bought anything. Was home for about an hour, then we went to my friend Staci's thirty-one party. Was a good time, could've spent WAY more than I did if I had any disposable income. I bought myself an apron and quit spending money. Came home with plenty to do... the only thing I have accomplished is to cut apples from my tree and make baked cinnamon apples. Was going to make applesauce, but I don't have a potato masher.

The problem is, in my head, I am super motivated and have a lot of things I want to get done. I can't seem to keep my energy up to do it.... and part of it is just the fact that I don't care. Yesterday, there was a part of me remembering where I should've been, and sad to be missing out. Ditto for today.

This True Blood addict will be waiting until tomorrow night for the season finale... I don't have HBO. Used to watch it at Josh's, now Staci is recording it for me. I'll go over there after school tomorrow to watch it, and spend some more time playing with her sweet boys.

"Where Were You When the World Stopped Turning"

Every year, I think back to that day. September 11, 2001. I was a senior in high school, happily oblivious to the cares of the world. Walking out of AP English to go to second period, I hear NL yelling "Planes crashed into the World Trade Center." All I could think was that it was a sick joke, because it could never really happen. Went to my locker to get my government book, walked into Mrs. Begley's classroom... to see everything that NL had said was true. That's why his voice had a tremor, why he sounded slightly terrified. We sat there in silence - there was nothing to say.

We saw the second plane hit, and we all became terrified. Although not all of in there were friends, we grabbed the hand of whoever was next to us, just to know someone was there. We changed classes at the bells, watching, waiting. I found out that the parents of some friends were supposed to be coming back to the US that day - thankfully, they made a call from overseas to state that they were ok, just not able to come home. It would be 3 days before flights resumed and they could return to their children.

I remember sitting on the couch that night, curled up next to my Daddy, watching President Bush's remarks on TV. Even next to my dad, I was scared. If they could that, was there anywhere that was safe? Even though we are relatively safe in the "country" we were close enough to Cincinnati that a nuclear or biological attack would effect us. No matter what happened, my eyes had been open. No longer could I be oblivious to world politics - they were too real now. While I may not choose a political party, I know that what happens overseas and here at home will dictate things that happen in my life.

My parents were supposed to fly to Vegas that weekend, leaving me and my 10 year old brother behind. I was almost 18, and perfectly capable of watching him for a 4 day weekend. My mom broke down the next day though, knowing there was no way she could risk getting on a plane and leaving her babies at home alone. It was confirmed that their trip would be delayed when my brother came home from school crying, begging them not to go in a plane that would crash. They took that trip months later - my dad made sure that I knew where their wills were kept, etc, just in case. It has stuck with me 9 years later. While I never would have asked them to cancel their trip, I was thankful that they postponed. I would have worried every second they were in the air.

9 years later, I have not forgotten where I was, what I was doing, and how it impacted my life. I can't hear "God Bless America" without tears coming to my eye - we quickly learned it to play before a moment of silence at the football game Friday night. Same thing for the National Anthem, when it's done well. I've always been patriotic and supportive of our troops. Now that my brother is in ROTC for the Navy, I'm even more so. I only hope that when my children ask me where I was that day, I can answer them without bursting into tears. It defined how the rest of my senior year went - I think it defined my class as a whole. When we graduated, two events stood out - 9/11, and the loss of a classmate. One was tragedy on a huge scale, one close to home. Both were events that defined us a class, brought us together, but strengthened our resolve to live our lives fully, give to others, and help those around us.

I will never forget.

Sometimes, it seems that no matter how good things are, the bottom drops out. Again, I delayed writing this - it's hard to lay it all out there where the whole world can read it. It is also hard to write at all, because I keep praying it will be un-true.

Josh broke things off. I haven't even told all my co-workers yet, because I cry every time I do. This time, it hurts. With David, I was embarrassed because I felt terrible telling people that the wedding I had been planning for 3 years wasn't going to happen. Very quickly though, I felt relief to not be making such a large mistake.

With Josh, I am truly heartbroken. This is the second time we've dated - and I wasn't ready for things to end either time. Forgive me if posts are down in the dumps - that's how I feel right now. I've been putting on a happy face and pretending my heart isn't crushed at school, because that's what a good teacher does. It takes so much energy that I am physically drained by about noon, when I still have hours left to go. I am constantly fighting the urge to cry - I can't get a hug from a friend because I will burst into tears, even though that's what I want more than anything in the world. My stomach hurts from the knots that are constantly there in the fight to hold the tears back. Something as simple as sitting through Mass can bring tears to fight. In a lot of ways, I feel double the pain. We had talked before starting a relationship this time about how things needed to be different, and that may be why we are here now. We definitely saw things in different ways, and he made the decision he felt he needed to. I may not agree and wish it weren't so, but I respect why he did it.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, please excuse the sparse posts. I don't want to bring anyone down, but there's not a lot to say. I spent last weekend doing some work around the house, and will be taking pictures soon. It's hard to be excited about what I accomplished when it was really a distraction!

The truth is, I haven't been doing very well. I have also been doing AWFUL at keeping track lately. Not sure why, but it's the truth.

I know why I haven't been motivated - I'm EXHAUSTED. I mean, seriously, went to bed at 7:30 last night. And slept through until my alarm went off at 6 this morning, and still could barely drag myself out of bed. I know there are people who say "You're getting too much sleep then" that's not a problem for me. I feel like I need a nap every day - kind of like when I had mono. Except I'm pretty sure I don't.

I did run last Thursday - made a mile in 11:50. Thought I was going to die after, but I pushed hard to finish in less than 12 minutes. I don't know why, but that was pretty important to me.

What do you do to stay motivated when you are tired? Any tips for beating exhaustion?

It's Been a While

Um, hi there. It's only been... two weeks since my last post. Life and school get in the way, ya know? You can see what keeps me so busy here.

It's been a while for an exercise log too. So let's see.... I don't remember :) I've been trying to keep up with doing Jillian or Wii Fit every day, but with school, it just doesn't happen. I did run a mile Thursday night - first mile in over a month, I made it in 11:50. I was ready to die when it was over, but I pushed through and finished it!

According to the Wii Fit, I've lost 3.7 pounds since Wednesday. It yelled at me because I hit my goal too quickly! I think it's because I have been a little stressed - a lot going on everywhere. I don't mind losing if it's coming from the right places!
